Specialist Expertise and Clinical Interest

Mr Vik Sharma is a Consultant Ophthalmologist whose clinical expertise includes the management of patients with cataract, eyelid surgery and glaucoma. He has specialist expertise in non-penetrating surgical techniques and tube implants, the latest micro-pulse laser treatment and micro-incision cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants.

He is an experienced glaucoma and cataract surgeon: using topical anaesthesia and on-axis phacoemulsification as part of his technique. At the London Ophthalmology Centre Mr. Sharma has introduced the use of micro-incision phacoemulsification with a less than 2mm incision for cataract surgery. This technique reduces trauma to the eye which leads to faster healing and reduced complications.

Professional Biography

Mr. Sharma is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Free Hospitals NHS Trust and is the Medical Director of the London Ophthalmology Centre.

Mr. V Sharma qualified in 1996 from St. Barts & The Royal London Hospitals Medical College. During his training he also completed a BSc in Immunology at the University College, London.

Early in his career, Mr. Sharma was Specialist Registrar in Ophthalmology appointed at many of London's teaching hospitals, and he has held the position of Glaucoma Specialist at King’s College and St Thomas’ Hospitals. He has also undergone further training in Oculo-Plastic surgery at the Premier Facial Plastic Centre in Sarasota, Florida.

He is an author of ophthalmology chapters in medical texts and articles in journals and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology for the University of London and regularly teaches other doctors, nurses and opticians.
