Dr Rakesh Sharma: Consultant Cardiologist

Specialist Expertise and Clinical Interest
Rakesh Sharma is a Consultant Cardiologist whose clinical expertise includes the management of patients with heart failure and complex pacing (including implantation of defibrillators and biventricular pacemakers).
He continues to be actively involved in ground breaking clinical research and is the Principal Investigator for a randomised clinical trial on biventricular pacing at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Professional Biography
Dr. Sharma was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital in 2006.
He qualified from Guy’s and St. Thomas’s Hospital in 1995 with triple honours and underwent postgraduate training in tertiary centres in London. He won a British Heart Foundation fellowship to study his PhD in Cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute for which he was awarded the Young Investigator Prize at the American Heart Association. Subsequently, he has worked at Harefield and the Chelsea & Westminster hospitals as a Cardiology Specialist Registrar prior to his appointment as Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Dr Sharma also instructs on Cardiology courses for undergraduate groups through Imperial College, doctors in training and gives tutorials on advanced echocardiography to Consultant Cardiologists.
He also gives talks to patients in the cardiac rehabilitation programme at the Royal Brompton and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.
